Thousands of students from all over the world come every year to this place, but only a few really know all of its secrets. Wether historical, statistical or cinematic, the Ulpan Neve Tsedek offers Tel Aviv cultural landmarks worth being proud of.

THE BUILDING IS ONE OF THE MOST HISTORICALLY ZIONIST IN THE CITY

When entering the Ulpan Neve Tsedek you are entering one of the most Zionist buildings in Tel Aviv. Between 1940 and 1948, it was exactly here that the future army of the State of Israel was training its soldiers to handle firearms.

THE MANAGER NEVER FORGETS ANYTHING

Her name is Michal, and if you cross her path even once in the Ulpan, she will remember you forever; the country where you come from, your class habits and even the mistakes you use to make in Hebrew! This woman’s memory functions better than any application you’ve ever had on your smartphone, but she is no Siri. She cares for the students like an Israeli mom would, with love!

IN 1935 IT WAS A RELIGIOUS CENTER

In the secular oasis that Tel Aviv has become, it is hard to imagine that such a central building was a religious school for boys in 1935. When the city’s religious population concentrated in areas outside of the city, the school closed soon after in 1970.

EVERY CLASS HAS ITS OWN WHATSAPP GROUP

The building may not be very modern, but its classes certainly are! In order to make communication easier and accessible, each class forms its own WhatsApp group.

IT HAS PROGRAMS FOR TOURISTS

Aah Israel, its sunny beaches, buzzing nightlife, warm people… and tricky Hebrew! Luckily, the Ulpan Neve Tsedek offers all year long all level courses for tourists looking to make their holiday a little more enriching. In August, intensive or not, written and speaking beginners morning courses will be offered. For more information, click here.

AN UNEVEN RATIO OF GIRLS

70% of the class are girls! For some reason this is the current trend at Ulpan Neve Tsedek! Maybe its the chic boutiques that have been sprouting up all over the neighborhood? Maybe girls are just more serious about learning Hebrew? This is one anomalie we can’t explain!

IT OFFERS A THEATER WORKSHOP

If learning grammar and vocabulary at a desk isn’t your thing, Ulpan Neve Tsedek has a few suggestions: why not an improvisation theater course? Or lectures in Hebrew? Or a debate team? Ulpan Neve Tsedek likes to keep all of its learner’s preferences in mind!

IT ORGANIZES MOVIE NIGHTS

Widescreen, dim lights, all-you-can-eat popcorn… This is an offer you can’t refuse! Israeli films can be hard to find without some help. Luckily, the Ulpan offers this nice set-up for its students to get a better grasp of Israeli culture, and they even have English subtitles to give you a hand. Added bonus: sometimes the movie’s actors or director come in to chat about the movie! How’s that for a VIP experience?
